Miraibo GO – the graphically impressive mobile take on the PalWorld format – is getting its first season, and the theme is very timely. Abyssal Souls is a massive seasonal event with major Halloween vibes.
We’ll let you know all about it shortly. First, for those of you who are yet to sample Miraibo GO’s charms, here’s what’s in store in the main game.
Developed by Dreamcube, Miraibo GO is a multiplayer, cross-platform monster-hunting survival adventure that sees you exploring a vast open-world environment and capturing dozens of different monsters.
These monsters – or Mira, to give them their proper name – come in a fantastic array of shapes and sizes, from hulking winged beasts that you can fly around on to weird spherical penguin things that you can’t.
The world of Miraibo GO is truly vast, consisting of frozen mountainscapes, arid deserts, stretches of scenic coastline, grassy planes, and more.
The Mira, meanwhile, not only come in a multitude of forms but also serve a multitude of purposes. Each one has its own unique set of skills, strengths, and weaknesses, and there are elemental affinities too.
That means there’s a huge number of tactical considerations to juggle depending on your opponent and the environment you’re fighting in – but Miraibo GO is about more than fighting.
When you’re not on the field of conflict you’re back at home, assigning various tasks to the Mira you’ve captured. These tasks include building, farming, gathering resources, and so on.
Season Worlds
With Abyssal Souls we’re witnessing the introduction of Season Worlds to Miraibo GO. These worlds are parallel universes, accessible through temporal rifts that you can find in the game’s lobby until the event ends.
Season Worlds aren’t just new places (albeit physically similar to the main world). They also contain different Mira, and operate with different gameplay features, progression systems, and rules, while also containing exclusive items and gear.
At the end of every season you’ll receive a reward commensurate with your progress through the event, and you’ll be able to plough these rewards into the main game.
Abyssal Souls
But what about this inaugural season? Abyssal Souls is a horror-tinged event that begins with the arrival of an ancient, storied evil in the Miraibo GO world. This evil is called the Annihilator, and it’s one tough cookie of a Mira.
Plus, it’s not alone. The Annihilator is in command of an army of minions, including Darkraven, Scaraber, and Voidhowl, each one more terrifying than the last.
To make matters worse, Abyssal Souls throws a spanner in the works by changing up gameplay. There’s a whole new progression system, for instance, which gives you modest health increases rather than attribute points for levelling up.
And there’s a new Soul system, too. This one lets you assign points to various stat bonuses that – and here’s the rub – you’ll lose in a flash if you fall in battle.
The PvP, meanwhile, has transferred to a mysterious island that appeared in the Annihilator’s wake. Carnage awaits you on this cursed landmass, with every battle a free-for-all that could cost you everything.
Everything, that is, except your equipment and Mira, which will remain with you throughout the season. Winning in PvP earns you Spectral Shards. These buy you all sorts of special items and rewards.
The PvP island isn’t the only new change in the Abyssal Souls map. There are also several buildings to explore, including the Mystic Cauldron, the Pumpking Lamp, the Abyss Altar, and the Ruin Arena.
And there are Halloween costumes, headwear, and various other seasonal accessories to collect, making for an appropriately terrifying festival of monster-collecting horror.
